Mrs. Konop's Class Tests Their Parachutes
The 4/5's have been researching, designing, and testing parachutes using one of our Engineering is Elementary kits. Students tested several variables to determine the best design, including suspension line length, canopy size, and canopy materials.
In these photos, the students are testing their first designs for their parachutes. Knowing that this parachute was to drop on a planet with a thinner atmosphere than Earth, students had to make sure their parachute met certain "speed" requirements. (or lack of speed!) They also had to make sure their parachute would fit into the rocket! They had a "parachute packing score." They had to stay within a certain amount of "space" between the suspension lines and the diameter of the canopy. Do you wonder if anyone's parachute was "mission ready?"
