NCS CELEBRATES AFRICA!
The NCS Diversity and Equity Committee coordinated a school-wide event giving NCS students the opportunity to see, feel, and experience the continent of Africa! This helped the students to better understand the world beyond their personal experience.
- Sidiki Bitie, father of Naomi (1st grader at NCS), presented on how he came to America and what it was like to be a child in Burkina Faso.
- Drum Power, an African drumming youth leadership group, came to NCS to perform and talk to students about their program.
- Kaitie Smith, mother of Mado (2nd grader at NCS), shared about her year studying the Maasai tribe in Kenya. She also led the students in a traditional Maasai tribe beaded craft.
- Engineers without borders from UW-Madison discussed with the students the important environmental impact of wells in Africa.
