NCS CELEBRATES ITS 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!

New Century School opened its doors 20 years ago this fall as one of the first public charter schools in the State of Wisconsin.  The program has always been located at the current location of 401 W. Verona Ave. Our building was actually built in 1917 at a cost of $17,000 as the Verona Graded School.  It served K-8 grade students.  The current K/1 section was added in 1950.  In the 1980s and early 1990's the building was used for 4th grade students.  New Century School was created as a charter school to pioneer multi-age classrooms and had an emphasis on science, world languages, team taught classrooms and cooperative learning.  There were 60 students enrolled in grades K-4.  Today we have 126 students enrolled in grades K-5.  We continue with multi-age grouping and have adopted a focus on environmental studies and STEM. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)  We are proud of our tradition while looking forward to the continuing evolution of New Century School.
