NCS 4/5 Teachers Received A Pair of Substantial Environmental Resources

The 4/5 team recently received a pair of substantial environmental resources.  The first was through the Verona Area Education Area Foundation, where Lee Lohr requested $805 for the making of up to 20 bat houses.  The 4/5's will be teaming up with the Verona Area High School shop students to plan, create, assemble, and put up the new bat houses at various parks in Dane County, as well as the new school site next year.  Lots of research, planning, math skills, team building, and practical hands on learning is ahead.  This exciting project will happen this spring.

The 4/5's were also fortunate enough to be selected to attend a workshop about groundwater and then receive a free groundwater sand tank model valued at ($1,100).  4/5 teachers will be trained how to use and maintain the model, which will help students visualize the movement of groundwater and pollutants through underground mateirals.  In addition, we will receive a plethora of additional educational materials for expanding our environmental education curriculum.  The training is provided by staff from the Wisconsin DNR, the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, and the UW-Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education.
