4/5 TEACHERS RECEIVE GRANT FROM VAEF TO MAKE BAT HOUSES WITH HIGH SCHOOLERS

The 4/5 team was recently received pair of substantial environmental resources.

The first was through the Verona Area Education Foundation, in which he requested $805 for the making of up to 20 bat houses.  The 4/5's will be teaming with the Verona High School shop students to plan, create, assemble, and put up the new bat houses at various parks in Dane County as well as at the new school site next year.  Lots of research, planning, math skills, team building, and practical hands on learning ahead. This project will happen next spring. Bat house

4/5 CLASSES SELECTED TO RECEIVE A GROUNDWATER SAND TANK MODEL TO HELP VISUALIZE MOVEMENT OF POLLUTANTS

The 4/5's were also fortunate enough to be selected to attend a workshop about groundwater and then receive a free groundwater sand tank model valued at ($1,100).  4/5 teachers will be trained how to use and maintain the model, which will help students visualize the movement of groundwater and pollutants through underground materials.  In addition we will receive a plethora of additional educational materials for expanding our environmental education curriculum.   The training is provided by staff from the Wisconsin DNR, the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, and the UW-Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education.
